Tekken Movie Trailer Released

January 25, 2010

The movie trailer for the new live-action Tekken film may either galvanize fans of the popular fighting game series or alienate them. It flashes much too quickly through the fights for viewers to see the action but it does show plenty of flying fists and kicks.

SYNOPSIS
The film is set in year 2039. World Wars have destroyed much of civilization as we know it. The remaining territories are no longer run by governments, but by corporations, the mightiest of which is Tekken.

Actor John Foo (top left) plays the lead character: Jin Kazama (pictured at right). Seeking revenge on the killer of his mother he reconnects with his grand-father, Heihachi Mishima, and pleads with him to train him in martial arts.

Tekken sponsors the Iron Fist Tournament in which fighters compete to the death for ultimate glory. When he finds out his mother's killer will be fighting in the tournament, he vows to fight the world's most elite group of fighters to achieve his destiny of revenge.

MARTIAL ARTISTS FIGHT IN TEKKEN

  • Lateef Crowder, the Brazilian capoeira fighter who threatened Tony Jaa in the burning temple of The Protector (Tom Yum Goong), plays Eddy Gordo.
  • Famous mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Cung Le makes an appearance as Marshall Law.
  • Kickboxing champion Gary Daniels plays Bryan Fury.  Tekken Poster

Even if the movie doesn't satisfy seat-fillers, we can see that the industry is starting to get the message that martial artists make convincing fighters on screen as well as off.

Tekken literally means "Iron Fist" in Japanese and the game has been a hit with fans for nearly two decades. The story's chronological placement with the games is after Tekken 2.

The film is slated for a 2010 release date. Watch the trailer below.
