Be A Soldier in Avatar: The Last Airbender

March 20, 2009

M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs) is bringing the popular anime-influenced series Avatar: The Last  Airbender to the big screen, as a live-action film.

The Emmy-award winning animated series has gotten rave reviews from people who don't normally watch animation mostly for its top-notch story-lines, design and well-developed characters.

It's too late for you to get on board as a lead character. We posted the casting for the main character 'Aang' late last year.

However, if you'd like to be a martial arts soldier in the film and can get to Philadelphia, you can find out details in the casting link below.

Avatar is set in an Asian-influenced world of martial arts and elemental manipulation. It takes place in a world that is home to humans, creatures, and spirits. Human civilization is divided into four nations based on a natural element: the Fire, Water, Earth and Air Nations. Within each nation exists an order called "Benders" who have the ability to manipulate the element of their nation.

MARTIAL ARTS
Each Bending art has its own style of martial arts, causing it to inherit the advantages and weaknesses of the martial arts it was based on.  Avatar - The Last Airbender

Airbending is based on the movements of Ba Gua. Firebending is based on Northern Shaolin Kung Fu. Earthbending is based on Hung Gar. And Waterbending is based on Tai Chi

The show draws heavily on elements from East Asian, South Asian, and Western culture - all of which made the project very interesting to Shyamalan (pictured top left).

THE STORY
When the hostile Fire Nation threatens to enslave the Water, Earth, and Air Nations, a reluctant and irresponsible young protagonist named Aang, must forgo his selfish wandering to learn to master his latent powers and face his destiny as the Avatar, the One who can restore the world order.

Dev Patel, a British actor who was last seen in Slumdog Millionaire, has been cast recently as Zuko. He is a black belt in Taekwondo.

Avatar: The Last  Airbender will hit the big screen in July 2010.
