New Trailer for Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li

January 7, 2009

The first domestic teaser trailer for the new Street Fighter film (based on the popular video game series) has been released.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li revolves around female fighter Chun-Li embarking on a personal journey for justice. Robin Shou, of Mortal Kombat fame, plays Gen - the sage kung-fu master and Chun Li’s mentor.

GAME FIGHTING BROUGHT TO THE BIG SCREEN

For fans of the game series, script-writer Justin Marks has said in an interview to Joblo.com, "There are many nods to signature moves. Fans won't be disappointed, because [...] we talked about fighting styles for each character and which moves were the best to highlight. Their reverence for the source material has been awesome. Some of those fighting styles have never been depicted on film before. Then [we added our] own flavor and brought them to a whole new level."

Aaron Horwitz mentioned on the official Street Fighter blog, "regarding the tone, we are certainly not going for camp or cheese or any kind of laughs. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into the making of this film, and, you’re gonna see a lot of those ON film as well. We are going for a somewhat more realistic, gritty, dramatic , and oh yes, action-packed direction than you might expect. "

The last Street Fighter movie came out in 1994 and starred Jean-Claude Van Damme and has no relation to this newest video-game adaptation.
