Martial Arts Make History... Channel

April 2, 2007

The History Channel has announced a new martial arts series that is currently in production for the network, to premiere in 2007 - 2008. The weekly series called “The Human Weapon” will cover world-traveling martial-arts adventures in a quest to find bona fide masters of various disciplines.

Each of the martial arts -- whether Karate, Capoeira, Muay Thai, Kung Fu, or Greco-Roman wrestling -- is the unique product of a fascinating culture. Each is steeped in the history and mythology of a region. And each has a Master.

The 13-episode series will follow the show's hosts as they venture to extreme and exotic places -- one week, seedy back streets of Bangkok to find Master Muay Thai fighter Suriya Ploenchit, and the next, sampling local delicacies such as steamed silkworms en route to face off with the reigning Taekwondo champion in South Korea. Along the way they absorb a nation's unique history and traditions, and how it gave birth to its distinct form of combat. The History Channel

In a series of extreme tests, they must confront professionals in each fighting style and fight a master. (This should be interesting.)

The show’s hosts Jason Chambers and Bill Duff have formidable backgrounds. (A score of host hopefuls from Martial Arts Talent also submitted for these roles.)

Jason Chambers (pictured top left) is a mixed martial artist  and professional fighter with over 10 years of Kickboxing and Muay Thai training. He has Black Belts in Combat Karate and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a Yellow Belt in Judo, and an "intermediate" level in Kali/Escrima. He is a professional Ultimate Fighter (UFC) with a record of 16-5.

Bill Duff is a 6 foot 4, 290 pound former football player and wrestler. Duff played in the NFL, in Europe and the XFL before trying to make it as an actor.

History.com will showcase the series with exclusive destination mini-sites featuring dynamic interactive broadband and short form content, games, video logs, timelines, and much more.
