Matflix – Your Martial Arts Videos on the WebJanuary 16, 2007![]() Our new favorite past-time is checking out Matflix to see if any new martial arts videos have been posted. Addictive? Perhaps. But Matflix seems to have figured out the right formula for martial artists and the people who love them. YOUR MARTIAL ARTS VIDEOS ON THE WEB
Matflix, similar to YouTube, allows you to upload your own martial arts videos. Alternatively, you can just watch – rate – or comment on others. 27 channels from “Demo Reels” to “Female Fighters” divide the videos into subsections. Of course you can search videos, or click on tags to find related videos. What makes the site different than the countless other YouTube clones popping up all over the net? Specialized content. Matflix, derived from “flicks from the mat” – yes, the mats in martial arts schools, only hosts videos related to the martial arts. They want it to be a one-stop, community based site for watching all kinds of martial arts content on the web. Oh, and by the way, it's free with no plans of changing. With just over 50 videos at the moment, subjects range from children practicing wing chun to commercials starring Zhang Ziyi. Frankly, we’re still amazed by the karate fighting chimpanzee. There are various reports that the site is still in “beta” so prone to the occasional technical hiccup every now and then, but to us it seems to working fine. Some videos are slower than others but we find that letting them load, and then playing them makes for easy viewing. Now, will we soon be seeing some rising Matflix stars in the same vein as the lucky few made famous (or infamous) from YouTube videos? Only time will tell.
In any case, Matflix is a site to watch and will certainly become a great resource of martial arts content as it grows. |
