Martial Arts Casting Call Gone WrongOctober 16, 2006![]() Surprisingly enough there are always those people who think they can merely imitate the right skills with enough determination. As much as we believe in the power of thought (and focus), for martial arts such attempts can often be embarrassing, dangerous or both. Of course, it doesn’t take long for a trained expert to recognize an untrained individual (this also holds true for acting as well). This is the primary reason we ask our talent to be truthful about their capabilities and experience. The reality? The truth will come out sooner than later when it’s time for performance. There is enough variety in projects and jobs for you to apply to those opportunities at your proper level. AUDITIONS As simple as it may appear to mimic the jump kick or back flip you saw on screen without proper training, your body may have other ideas when you attempt to make a first time kick to the head. Now, add that to the fact that most people quite naturally get nervous at auditions. The pressure to perform, properly and flawlessly, knowing that the choreographer or director is sizing up your every move, can be daunting. Someone sent in this video of a casting call and it gave us quite a laugh. Not at the sight of people injuring themselves of course, but clearly there were some overly ambitious endeavors. To reiterate: always make sure you are qualified for the auditions you take. If you do have the proper skills: 1. Relax 2. Get to the audition early so that you can warm up before your performance. With that said, we have decided to share the video (credits to Gougoule) in hopes that NONE of your Martial Arts Talent auditions or job interviews ever go like these.
