Casting Calls & Auditions: Going for An Open Call
People often dream of an opportunity to attend the casting call that changes their life. They envision showing up, broadcasting their best attributes and getting recognized by that influential someone who just so happens to be at the audition. Sometimes, it actually unfolds this way. More often than not perhaps, you’ll show up and be one talent among fifty or even a hundred. That being said, we've listed a few essential elements to consider before attending an audition. Make a note of them and get squared away to reach your dreams with style and class. Have you thoroughly understood the requirements of the role or opening? Get Noticed: Martial Arts or Acrobatics?
Sometimes we get casting calls for multi-talented individuals who can perform traditional martial arts as well as eye-popping jumps. A martial artist who can perform a forward-flip while wielding a sword makes an impressive picture indeed. Additionally, if he’s an acrobatic adept it means less need for wires and spotters. Nevertheless, martial arts and acrobatics are not mutually exclusive. Today we have off-shoots of martial arts such as Xtreme Martial Arts (XMA) and Tricking. Both arts incorporate a degree of martial moves so you can expect to see kicks, stances and punches. What you’ll see more of is flips, splits, 360-twists and other aerial moves. Tricking is not mainly a combat sport but who’s to say the techniques cannot be used in self-defense? In any case, martial arts is an umbrella term and embraces a full variety of arts. If the foundation is developed on the essentials of martial arts and accented with other elements, it's not that different from a few other styles. |

Fight Scenes Broken Down
After watching a Jet Li block-buster or two, quite a few martial artists are anxious to take their own turn on the screen. Think it’s a piece of cake to put your best fight forward and film a killer fight scene? Here’s a bit of information to break down the mystery behind screen fighting. MYTH: Great fighters make the best screen fighters. TRUTH: Not at all. Filming in front of the camera incorporates a host of other elements which are essential to getting a stellar finished product. The best “fighters” in a street fight for example will usually take the most effect moves to finish the fight quickly. Fact is, it’s not very pretty to look at. On the other hand, good choreography is what makes the best screen fighters. All of your favorite action stars wouldn’t look as polished and seamless without the excellent choreography of industry veterans. |

Surprisingly enough there are always those people who think they can merely imitate the right skills with enough determination. As much as we believe in the power of thought (and focus), for martial arts |
